"Some Galveston residents whose homes were destroyed are buying what they can find in the city, Cornelius said.
The Evia subdivision, which is near the Moody Gardens Golf Course, is a hot spot for buyers because none of its homes flooded, he said.
'There's little habitable housing on the island so it's in great demand right now,' said Cornelius, owner of an appraisal company.
Because of that shortage, some Galveston residents who lost their homes are buying houses in newer subdivisions in Texas City and La Marque in order to stay close to their jobs, he said.
'That's all they can find to live in,' he said. "
